Bamiyan to get a new hospital, and a new school building will be built in Kabul

Fada Hossein Maleki

Afghanistan’s Bakthar News Agency reported earlier this week that a new 100 bed hospital will be built in Afghanistan’s central province of Bamiyan. Funding for the project, including the equipment for the hospital will come from the Iranian government. Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Fada Hossein Maleki, met with Afghanistan’s second vice president, Mohammad Karim Khalili on June 14th and declared his country’s readiness to start on the project. Once completed, the hospital will serve the needs of thousands of people in the province.

Also earlier this week, Ghulam Farooq Wardak, Afghanistan’s Minister of Education, laid the foundation stone of a new building that will be built for the Kabul Institute of Computer Science. The project is estimated to cost $1.2 million, according to report from Pajhwok Afghan News. Funding for the project will come from the United States. Once completed, the 3-story building will have 45 rooms, including administrative rooms and a conference hall.

The United States and Iran are two of the largest donors towards Afghanistan’s reconstruction.

I think this is the wonderful news that Afghans need more of! I also think that the Americans need to see that other countries are re-building Afghan Infrastructure, and if we want to be seen as friends, we need to support these types of projects with U.S. funds going forward.
